Orlando Area Rowing Society

2023-2024 Competitive 8th Grade Rowing Program

Welcome

Welcome to the 2023-2024 Competitive 8th Grade Rowing Program at OARS

We can not wait to get back on the water this season with your rowers.  The following pages will walk you through the steps that are necessary to register your rower and to ensure that they will have a successful season with OARS!  We have linked documents and sites below that will be needed throughout the registration, so please follow the instructions below before continuing to the next page.  Please read this whole page carefully as your rower's ability to attend practice will depend on compliance with the forms below.

As part of this registration, you will need to upload the following documents.  Please have them scanned (or photographed) and ready to upload as either PDF or JPG images.

  • Sports Physical - A link to an acceptable sports physical form is listed down below.  Your physician may provide a different form that may also be acceptable.  All rowers must have an active (they remain active for 1 year from physician's signature) sports physical on file in order to practice. Whichever form is used, it must have the physician's permission to participate in physical activity with signature .  If last year's physical is still active, you still need to upload that form.  If you no longer have a physical or digital copy of that form you must make arrangements with your rower's physician to obtain a copy.
  • Code of Conduct - OARS has adopted a code of conduct which can be found linked below.  Please print and have your rower read and sign, as indication of their willingness to abide by this code of conduct.  A parent's signature will also be required as indication that expectations we have for rower's conduct while participating in OARS related activities is understood by the parent. Scan (or photograph) and have ready to upload during the registration.
  • Attendance Contract -  OARS has also adopted an attendance policy which is linked below.  Please print and have your rower read and sign as indication of their willingness to adhere to the policy.  A parent's signature will also be required as indication that the policy is understood by the parent and they will make every effort to encourage them to attend.
  • USRowing Membership and Waiver - New rowers who have never completed membership to USRowing must create a membership by following the below link.  For participation in USRowing Regionals and Nationals, the Championship Package will need to be added to your rower's membership.  There is a $65 cost for new members and a $55 cost for returning members.
Returning Members, please make sure your rower's USRowing membership is up to date and if you would like, you can turn on automatic renewal so that all you need to do is go in and sign the waiver every year.
  • Proof of Birth - For FSRA State Championships, we will need to submit proof of birth.  This can be a birth certificate, driver's license, state ID, or passport.
  • Photo Identification - Also for State Championships, we will need to submit an official photo ID.  If in the proof of birth category you used a birth certificate, we also need a form of identification that includes the rower's name and photo.  If you used the driver's license, state ID, or passport above, upload the same document.
  • OCPS Students Skyward Profile Page - FSRA also requires proof of school attendance in a Florida school.  For OCPS students the necessary information can easily be capture in a screen shot of the rower's Skyward Student Information page.  This may also work to satisfy the Photo Identification requirement if the rower's photo is included.  Skyward will be down until August 2nd, so you may need to wait until then to register.
